What is JPEG Format?
JPEG, short for Joint Photographic Experts Group, is an image format introduced in 1992 as part of the ISO/IEC 10918-1 standard. It uses a method called Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to compress images. It breaks an image into 8×8 pixel blocks and reduces details that human eye is less sensitive to.
